IT’S THE TIME of year when people of a certain age would wait for the bumper edition of the RTÉ uide to come out, highlighters at the ready, ready to tick off what needed to be watched.

The highlighter can be put away because RTÉ announced its full lineup his moning.

Top of their festive list is two Mrs Brown’s Boys specials with the first to be aired at 22.35pm on Christmas Day.

Here’s a pick of the entertainment shows:

• Carrick On Stag (RTÉ2 – 21 December 21:30) In Carrick-On-Stag RTÉ joins ‘brides & grooms to be’ for one last raucous weekend before they get married.
• Christmas Carols From Cork (RTÉ One – Christmas Eve 20:10) Presented by Mary Kennedy, this year the Christmas carols show is set beside the River Lee in the beautiful grounds of University College Cork.
• Christmas With Daniel (RTÉ One – Christmas Eve 21:30) Join Daniel O’Donnell this Christmas Eve for a festive celebration, exclusively recorded at his sold out Christmas show at the Convention Centre Dublin.
•  Midnight Mass (RTÉ One – Christmas Eve 23:15) Midnight Mass live from Sacred Heart Church, Donnybrook, Dublin.
• Other Voices: Gavin James Christmas Special (RTÉ2 – Christmas Day 20:30) Recorded live at the Other Voices festival in Dingle earlier this month. Choice music prize winner Gavin James gives an intimate performance from one the most unique music festivals in Ireland.
• Bridget & Eamon - Christmas Special (RTÉ2 – Christmas Eve 22:05)
• Fair City (RTÉ One – Christmas Day 20:25) It’s a case of the ghosts of Christmas past for Paul Brennan this year as Niamh plans the ultimate Christmas dinner with Paul’s ex-lovers and children.
• Mrs. Brown’s Boys – Mammy’s Forest (RTÉ One – Christmas Day 22:25) Something isn’t quite right in the Brown household this Christmas. Agnes Brown has had enough hassle with Christmas trees to last a lifetime.
• Senior Moments (RTÉ One –  27 December 20:30) Senior Moments is a comedy show where the senior members of our society display their charm, warmth and wit, both out on the street pranking unsuspecting young folk.
• The Nathan Carter Show Christmas Special (RTÉ One – 28 December 21:30) There are plenty of festive treats lined up as Nathan Carter hosts this special Christmas edition of his show.
• EURO 2016 – Two Shades of Green (RTÉ2 – 29 December 21:30). Two Shades of Green will look back on those heady few weeks through the eyes of those who were there.

And it wouldn’t be Christmas unless you passed out in front of the sofa with a classic film on.

Here’s a pick of the movies being shown on RTÉ television over Christmas:

• 22 Jump Street (RTÉ One – 18 December  21:30) After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt and Jenko when they go deep undercover at a local college.
•  Love, Actually  (RTÉ One -23 December 21:25) Christmas classic at this stage. It follow the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales.
• The Lego Movie (RTÉ One – Christmas Eve 18:15) Your favourite toys – voiced by movie stars. What’s not to like?
• Despicable Me 2 (RTÉ One – Christmas Day 16:55) More madness from the movie franchise which brought you those minions.
• Frozen (RTÉ One – Christmas Day 18:35) – “Let it go….Let it gooo”. The film more famous for its soundtrack than its plot.
• The Flag (RTÉ One – Christmas Day 23:00) Pat Shortt plays sad sack Harry Hambridge, who returns home for his father’s funeral and learns that his grandfather was the man who placed the tricolour atop the GPO in 1916.
• Calvary (RTÉ One – St. Stephen’s Day 21:15) After he is threatened during a confession, a good-natured priest must battle the dark forces closing in around him.
• Die Hard 2 (RTÉ2 – 17 December 21:00) – Yet another classic. It’s Bruce Willis. It’s Christmas and there’s terrorists about.
